The McCook Community Foundation Fund teamed up with McCook Community College to develop the Center for Applied Science and Technology (CAST) which provides training in welding and machine shop skills.
Recruiting Diverse, Committed Leaders

McCook Community Foundation Fund advisory committee members say that leadership recruitment is the key to continuing success. Stan Goodwin said, “We’re advocates of making this group representative of the community in terms of gender, age and economic status. No one has their own specific agenda. They’re just focused on the welfare of the community.”
“The Ultimate Gift” Inspires McCook

The McCook community was treated to a very special event with a free public showing of the inspirational film, The Ultimate Gift. It’s the story of a young man who anticipates a large inheritance from his grandfather. More than 300 people of all ages attended.
“The purpose of the event was to say thank you to the community and to show the positive effect charitable giving has on the people of southwest Nebraska,” said Mark Graff, NCF Honorary Board Member and McCook Community Foundation Fund advisory committee member.
No Holiday Humbug in McCook

Late in 2007 Don Harpst and his wife, Alice, challenged the McCook Community Foundation Fund to raise $75,000 by December 31, 2007. If successful, the Harpsts promised to donate an additional $25,000.
The Fund Advisory Committee visited with members of the community asking them to become Founders at the $1,000 level. All together the campaign produced $137,817. All but $4,000 is for an unrestricted endowment.
HTC in McCook

HomeTown Competitiveness is a household word in McCook because of collaboration across the community. The hospital, the library, the college, the economic development corporation, and other organizations meet monthly to keep lines of communication open and progress moving forward.
