Endowment Payout Carry Forward

If your affiliated fund has not disbursed or committed the entire amount of the payout from your endowment accounts for the current fiscal year, you have the ability to carry forward all or a portion of the amount not spent as long as you notify NCF of your intention in writing (including email). The endowment payout amount for each of your affiliated fund’s endowment accounts is printed on the bottom of your fund statement.

If you choose to carry amounts forward for use in the next fiscal year and you notify NCF, the amount carried forward will appear on your fund statement immediately below the amount you have available to grant for the next fiscal year. The current fiscal year carry-forward amount and the next fiscal year endowment payout amount will appear beginning on the June statement of the current fiscal year fund statement, which you will receive in late July following the end of the current fiscal year. Any amount carried forward from the current fiscal year that is not disbursed or committed by the end of the next fiscal year will automatically be reinvested in your endowment account.

If you choose NOT to carry forward any unused current fiscal year endowment payout, you do NOT need to contact NCF. Any unspent amount will be reinvested into your endowment account and included in the asset base we use to determine the endowment payout amount for the next fiscal year and future years.  See Section D of the Quarterly Financial Reports reading instructions for information about how the endowment payout amount is calculated.

NCF must receive your written or emailed request by mid-May in order to compute the endowment payout amount for next fiscal year, which begins July 1.

Please notify your development staff contact of your intentions in writing or by email by mid-May. For your convenience, you may download a response form. You can mail the form to NCF at P.O. Box 83107, Lincoln NE 68501-3107, fax it to 402-323-7349, or email your development staff contact:

Remember, the purpose of building an endowment is to provide funds to invest in your community. Using the endowment payout amounts to make grants that have a positive impact both fulfills the purpose of your endowment and shows your donors – past, present and future – that your affiliated fund is making a difference. A strong grantmaking program gives you success stories to tell and helps you make your case for additional support from donors.

What motivated my gift?

“I gave this a lot of thought and with some help from upstairs, I decided I could help students become Registered Nurses. I’ve been in the hospital more times than I care to count and they [nurses] are the ones that help you get well with all of their care, smiles and conversation. If this part of the country gets more RNs, everyone will benefit with better health.”
