TOOLS FOR DONORS

Establishing a Donor-Advised Fund with the Nebraska Community Foundation:

Donor-advised funds allow donors to establish a fund under the Nebraska Community Foundation's 501(c)(3) status.  A donor-advised fund can be directed to specific projects, as designated by the fund advisory committee.  Using a donor-advised fund gives donors several advantages:

  • Not having to establish a private individual or family foundation.
  • Not having to make individual contributions to individual charities.
  • Not being bound by specific distribution rules associated with a private foundation.
  • The donor and advisory committee advise when and where proceeds are distributed.
  • The donor may retain investment discretion over the donor-advised fund, within Foundation guidelines.
  • The donor receives a charitable deduction immediately upon receipt of gift.

This Private Foundation Comparison Chart  summarizes the differences between setting up a Private Foundation and establishing a Donor Advised Fund with the Nebraska Community Foundation.
