Nebraska Community Foundation Celebrates 10 Years with Lincoln Banquet

Lincoln—Ten years of putting charitable dollars to work for Nebraska’s hometowns will be celebrated at the annual banquet of the Nebraska Community Foundation in Lincoln Thursday, November 13.  The event will begin with a 5 p.m. reception and the banquet at 6 p.m. at the Country Inn and Suites, 5353 N. 27th St., Lincoln.  Nearly 200 people are expected to attend.

Several of the nine incorporators and founding board members will attend.  Also present will be representatives of the 169 affiliated funds of the Foundation, dispersed through 72 of Nebraska’s 93 counties.

When the Foundation was established in August 1993, the board set a goal of helping Nebraska communities raise $25 million by the year 2000.  That goal was surpassed and in 10 years, the Foundation’s affiliated funds have raised about $52 million.

At the banquet, the Foundation will introduce a new video, focusing on its history, its affiliated funds, and its donors.  There have been more than 17,000 contributions to the Foundation and its affiliated funds in the last five years.  A new Legacy Society and its members will be introduced at the banquet.  The Society recognizes donors who have made cumulative, lifetime gifts of $100,000 or more or who have made planned gifts through their wills, a beneficiary designation or a life income gift.

Several awards will also be presented, to a special corporate donor, Consolidated Companies of Lincoln, and to affiliated funds.  The awards categories are new fund, existing fund, Legacy Challenge, endowment building efforts and project of the year.  Receiving the awards will be Mullen, Plattsmouth, Keith County, McCook and Wayne.

A special guest, Rick Foster, a program officer of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, will make a presentation.  The Kellogg Foundation recently awarded the Nebraska Community Foundation a two-year, $100,0000 per year grant, for development and training services to affiliated funds.
