23, 2002 Statewide Foundation Hires Development Director
“The Foundation’s Board of Directors are pleased that Doug will serve as our first full-time development officer. He brings a life-time of experience in working as a volunteer for small community foundations, and a strong financial background to this position,” Mrs. Moul said. Friedli has been president of the Otoe County Bank & Trust in Nebraska City since 1993. He will continue to be active in the bank as a Director according to Grant Gregory, Chairman of the Board of the bank. Friedli has been active in banking for 34 years while also being involved in many community projects. He began his banking career with Union Bank & Trust in Lincoln in 1968, while a student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was then employed at First National Bank Northeast at Lyons, Nebraska, from 1974-1993, serving as vice-president, president and secretary of the Board of Directors. While at Lyons, he helped found the Lyons Community Foundation, serving as its treasurer from 1988 to 1992. He also was a founding director of the Nebraska City Community Foundation and has served as its treasurer since 1999. “I look forward to working with lots of communities,” Friedli stated. The Nebraska Community Foundation is active in over 145 communities in 69 counties throughout Nebraska. Friedli’s work as the Nebraska Community Foundation development director will involve providing planning and fund-raising assistance to the local advisory committees for the community funds. He will be the lead staff person for the endowment-building efforts for community funds. Endowed assets for the Foundation’s affiliated funds totaled $7.09 million on June 30, 2002, a 48 percent increase over the previous year, according to Jeff Yost, executive vice-president of the Foundation. Friedli will also work closely with Jim Gustafson, the Foundation’s planned giving consultant, in providing planned giving services to the communities and their donors. Other community service by Friedli includes President of the Lyons Industrial Development Corporation, both the Lyons and Nebraska City Nebraska Community Improvement Program committees, secretary and founding director of the Lewis & Clark Trail Center Foundation, director of the Southeast Community College Foundation, education committee of the Nebraska Bankers Association, past president of the River Country Economic Development Corporation, and director of the United Methodist Nebraska Conference Foundation. He is also an Ak-Sar-Ben Ambassador and father of two Ak-Sar-Ben Countesses. Doug and his wife Pat will continue to live in Nebraska City. Pat will continue working at her business at TEMPS, which just celebrated their fifth anniversary. Doug will be commuting to Lincoln and traveling all across the state. Gregory noted that, “Doug’s continued roll in the bank and as an active resident of Nebraska City will be an extension of our superb relationship.” --30-- **The above photo was used with permission from the Nebraska City News Press, Inc.
