May 7, 2003 Maxine Moul, Lincoln, Selected For 2003 Transatlantic Community Foundation Fellowship
Fellows will spend approximately three weeks with a community foundation on the opposite side of the Atlantic in June 2003. Mrs. Moul will be working with the Healthy City Community Foundation in Banska Bystrica, The Slovak Republic. The Fellowship begins with a group orientation in Brussels, Belgium and concludes with a final debriefing in Washington, DC. The 2003 Fellows are experienced leaders in the field of community philanthropy with a demonstrated commitment to improving their own community foundations through exposure to new ideas and concepts that they will gain through the exchange experience. Fellows are selected based on their length of service and commitment to the community foundation field and overall knowledge of the operation and structure of community foundations. The TCFF program seeks to assemble a Fellowship group that is diverse in geographic representation, foundation size, and community demographics. GMF together with KBF initiated the fellowship program to stimulate a two-way learning experience between Fellows and counterpart foundations, providing the opportunity to explore the social, cultural, and economic circumstances affecting community foundation development. Advisory committees of experienced U.S. and European community foundation representatives guide the selection process and advise the program organizers. Mrs. Moul was instrumental in founding the Nebraska Community Foundation in 1993 and served as its first chair from 1993 to 1996. She has served as its president since 1996. She is a former Lt. Governor of Nebraska and Director of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. The Nebraska Community Foundation now works with over 150 affiliated funds operating in 63 of Nebraska’s 93 counties. It helps community based and organizational funds mobilize charitable giving for community and economic development in Nebraska’s rural communities. About the Organizers KBF supports and organizes the European portion of the Fellowship program. GMF carries out the U.S. portion of the program, with financial support and advice from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation. The King Baudouin Foundation of Belgium (www.kbs-frb.be) was established in Belgium in 1976 with the goals of stimulating longer-term thinking, increasing public awareness of key issues and developing solutions through its grants and programs. The King Baudouin Foundation of the United States (www.kbfus.org) was established in Atlanta as a public charity to extend the global reach of the King Baudouin Foundation. The German Marshall Fund of the United States (www.gmfus.org) is an American grant making and public policy institution that stimulates the exchange of ideas and promotes collaboration between the United States and Europe in the spirit of the postwar Marshall Plan. GMF was created in 1972 by a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan aid.
