Foundation Hires Bingham Rancher for Western Nebraska Development Work

LINCOLN — Bingham, NE rancher Jana Jensen has accepted the position of assistant development director with the Nebraska Community Foundation effective October 15, 2002, according to Maxine Moul, President of the statewide foundation.

Jensen will work with communities in the Sandhills and Western Nebraska who currently have affiliated funds with the Nebraska Community Foundation, or are interested in establishing a fund to accept charitable donations for community and economic development in their hometown.

“The Foundation’s Board of Directors are pleased that Jana will be providing education and technical assistance to our Western Nebraska communities. She is the first staff member to be hold a full-time position for such work,” Mrs. Moul said.

Jensen, a native of Bingham, is a partner in the Powles Gelbvieh Ranch in Sheridan and Garden Counties, which is a registered and commercial cattle ranch.  She has also been an entrepreneur in the drive-through coffee business in Alliance and North Platte, in partnership with two other ranch women.

For four years, she served as vice-president of member services for the Nebraska Cattlemen in Alliance and Lincoln, coordinating all member recruitment programs and working with over 50 local affiliates throughout Nebraska.

Jensen also was an administrative assistant for the Baldridge Company of North Platte, a purebred livestock marketing agency.

She attended Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, WY and holds a B.S. degree in Agricultural Communications from the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

“I am pleased to be able to work with Western Nebraska communities in revitalizing rural Nebraska,” Jensen said. The Nebraska Community Foundation has 150 community, organizational and donor-advised funds, working for community and economic betterment throughout Nebraska.  Jensen’s work as a Nebraska Community Foundation development staff member will involve providing planning and fund-raising assistance to the local advisory committees for the community funds.

She will also work closely with Doug Friedli, development director for the Nebraska Community Foundation, on the endowment-building efforts for community funds.  Endowed assets for the Foundation’s affiliated funds totaled $7.09 million on June 30, 2002, a 48 percent increase over the previous year, according to Jeff Yost, executive vice-president of the Foundation.

Both Friedli and Jensen will also work closely with Jim Gustafson, the Foundation’s planned giving consultant, in providing planned giving services to the communities and their donors.

Consolidated Telephone Companies of Lincoln, which serves many Sandhills communities and other areas of Western Nebraska, is providing major funding for Jensen’s position.  Brian Thompson, Vice-President, said, “We feel that Jana and the Nebraska Community Foundation have great commitment to our service area and have a desire to make our communities grow and thrive.”
