Gift Law is a free online information source for CPAs, attorneys and financial planners, that contains links to recent case studies, articles and commentary about charitable giving. NCF provides customized training for professional advisors concerning charitable giving. These trainings are private and confidential and can be done one-on-one or as an in-service for firms or professional organizations. Nebraska Community Foundation’s Gift Planning Director, Jim Gustafson, made a presentation at the University of Nebraska College of law’s Estate and Business Planning seminar on Friday, May 15, 2009 titled What Do Donors Want?
Jim’s presentation looked at emerging trends in charitable gift planning. Gave an overview of the options of Private Foundations, Supporting Organizations and Donor-Advised Funds that are available to help you meet your client’s interests. In addition, the presentation provided an update of the new rules from the Pension Protection Act of 2006 affecting Donor-Advised Funds and the steps to convert a Private Foundation to a Donor-Advised Fund.

NCF workshops aim to educate and train professional advisors to better understand techniques and technologies of fundraising and build community capacity to engage philanthropic giving as a community betterment strategy. The workshops are designed to build an overall awareness of the various gift tools available. They also have a proven track record of strengthening partnerships between a community’s professional advisors and the community foundation. The Art of Charitable Planning Workshop
The Art of Charitable Planning workshop helps professional advisors maximize their client’s tax savings and turn involuntary social capital into voluntary social capital. Practical scenarios and ideas are offered that help professional advisors engage their clients in a discussion about charitable gift planning. This workshop has been designed for financial planners, attorneys, CPAs, insurance agents, bankers, brokers and realtors.
Charitable Gifts that Solve Problems Workshop
The Charitable Gifts that Solve Problems Workshop takes gift planning to the next level by focusing on difficult topics. Such topics may include: tax-cursed properties, how to provide for family and charity, college annuity, retirement plan supplements, charitable planning resources, and by-passing capital gains strategies. This session also discusses new charitable planning opportunities created by changes in state and federal regulations.
With fewer than 700 people in the area it serves, the Thedford Community Foundation Fund has built an endowment of almost $200,000 in a few short years and made grants of nearly $40,000. It also has secured more than $150,000 in planned gifts.
