Gifts by Wills and Trusts

A bequest in a will can help celebrate a good life. A will is much more than a legal document. It is an opportunity to responsibly provide for the security of loved ones. It can be a lasting legacy of a life and commitment to the community, as well.

Establish a Will

A will allows your client to make choices regarding who will receive all the property they have accumulated during their lifetime. Without a will, the laws of the State of Nebraska distribute property, disregarding personal wishes and the needs of loved ones.  A will allows your client to make choices about how their family’s future security is provided. A properly drafted will allows your client to make the choice of minimizing death taxes and other costs.  Has your client’s will been updated in the last 12 months?

Update an Existing Will

An outdated will can often be as bad as dying without a will. Common events in life, such as births, deaths, marriages, divorces and retirements, can trigger the need to update your client’s will. Also, changes in tax law, an inheritance received, assets purchased or sold can impact their estate plan.

Make a Charitable Gift in a Will

A bequest, a gift in a will, is an opportunity to make a difference in the quality of life in your client’s hometown and continue the support they have provided during their lifetime. Many people discover that a bequest is a satisfying way for them to provide for future resources in their hometown.

A bequest can be a percentage of their estate or a stated dollar amount. Others prefer to gift a percentage of the “residue” or what remains after paying all inheritances, debts and costs.  Finally, there are special arrangements that allow gifts that can provide an income to your client’s family and later be used by their hometown.

Gifts of Grain:  Give more to your community. Pay less in taxes.

Gifts of Grain:  Give more to your community. Pay less in taxes.

With today’s high prices and a positive outlook for commodity markets, many farmers are considering gifts of grain to fulfill their charitable intentions.

When a farmer delivers grain to market and transfers ownership to a charity, they get greater tax savings than if they sell the commodity and then write a check from the proceeds.
