Chronicle of Philanthropy – The Great Transfer of Wealth: Is Your Nonprofit Ready?

The Great Wealth Transfer: Is Your Nonprofit Ready?

Hosted by the Chronicle of Philanthropy
Featuring NCF President and CEO, Jeff Yost

This was the title of the cover story in the Chronicle of Philanthropy last month. Since our first study in 2002, Nebraska Community Foundation has been on the leading edge of understanding the intergenerational transfer of wealth. Numbers may change with each new study, but the opportunity to empower our communities remains the same.

In the next 10 years, Nebraska will see $100 billion transfer from older generations to their heirs. In Valley County, that’s $400 million. In Red Willow County, $600 million. Thayer County, $565 million. Butler County, $815 million. And in Cheyenne County, $565 million. In all these counties the transfer of wealth is peaking now or very soon.

NCF’s Five to Thrive campaign asks all generous Nebraskans to give 5% of their estate to their favorite Nebraska hometown. That would be $20 million in Valley County or over $40 million in Butler County. Endowments of this size in Ord or David City (or any Nebraska hometown) can make an enormous difference!

Nebraska Community Foundation President and CEO Jeff Yost has been invited to serve on a panel of key leaders to talk about how NCF’s 1,500 volunteers in 270 Nebraska hometowns are working to harness this enormous opportunity through the Five to Thrive campaign.

Join the Chronicle of Philanthropy and nonprofits across the nation for a free panel discussion exploring what tools and practices nonprofits should have in place to enable Nebraskans to leave meaningful legacy gifts.
