Hometown Intern – Hannah Meeske

Name: Hannah Meeske
Hometown: Imperial
Affiliated Fund: Imperial Community Foundation Fund
College: Hastings Central Community College

Why were you interested in this internship opportunity?
I was excited about the relationships I could build while directly impacting my community. This internship has helped me grow. I have awesome fellow interns who are working and helping their community, but also struggle with interaction due to COVID.

What projects are you working on this summer for your affiliated fund?
I am working on trying to get a job shadow day going at our school, setting up a welcome event for new residents in Imperial, getting feedback from a young adults survey, putting together a list of area organizations, and updating the donor list.

What do you appreciate most about your hometown?
The thing I appreciate most about my hometown is how supportive my community is to new ideas. It doesn’t matter if you are a young boy trying to get a skate park or just brainstorming, the community is going to come together and help where needed.

How does it feel to be able to give back to your community?
It feels incredible to give back to my community. I love that people are excited for me to be doing this and in return I get to pursue this amazing opportunity that benefits the community.

What excites you the most when you think about the future of your community?
The growth of this community is something that excites me when I think about the future of Imperial. Imperial has so much potential and will continue to grow as people return with their hopes and dreams.

What characteristics do you look for in a place to call home? Why?
I look for a place that has a strong sense of community, a place with similar morals to those I carry, somewhere that is safe, a place that has a supportive community, and place that is willing to lend a helping hand. I look for all these things because this is my community and I hope that one day I will be able to do the same things that it has done for me.
