Important deadlines for year-end giving

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, Nebraska Community Foundation reminds you to get your year-end gifts in on time! Follow these tips to ensure your gift makes it through with ease:

  • Send contributions early and often to guarantee processing in 2023. Contributions made by check should be mailed to NCF’s Lincoln office (PO Box 83107, Lincoln, NE 68501) and must be postmarked by December 31 for donors to receive a charitable gift receipt in 2023.
  • Credit cards and online gifts must be successfully processed through your credit card provider by midnight, December 31, local time.
  • Charitable IRA rollover gifts must clear your account by December 31 in order to count against your 2023 required minimum distributions. This means your IRA custodian must receive your instructions, send the check to NCF, the check must be deposited by NCF, and the check must clear your IRA account by December 31.
  • Non-cash gifts (like commodities or publicly traded stock) require additional lead time which will be dependent on a donor’s broker or financial advisor (who may not conduct normal business hours during the holidays). Donors must initiate non-cash gifts as soon as possible to ensure they are received no later than December 29.
