2024 Scholarship Selection Committee

Introduction

NCF is excited to partner with you to invest in your students’ continued education! We hope that a scholarship will encourage them to stay or return home to contribute to their hometown.

Section 4966 of the Internal Revenue Code requires that NCF appoint your scholarship committee to ensure that the committee is not controlled by the donor or their affiliates, and that recipients are selected on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis. Before NCF can appoint your scholarship committee, we need to gather information about the scholarships you plan to award, the accounts from which you expect to pay them, and the individuals you have nominated to serve on your scholarship committee. Please review NCF’s Scholarship Policy and Guidelines for additional guidance.

New for 2024: we will use DocuSign to collect this information and to secure signatures!

Step 1: Identify Scholarships and Committee Nominees

Please complete the Scholarship Information and Committee Nomination Form. Once submitted, NCF will distribute a packet of information to each nominee via DocuSign that includes an Information Form and an acknowledgement of NCF’s Confidentiality and Information Disclosure Policy. You must provide an email address for every nominee.

Please nominate 4-7 individuals to serve on the scholarship committee; at least one must be a current member of your fund advisory committee. Family members (e.g., parents, grandparents, siblings, spouses, children, and grandchildren, including spouses and step-relatives) of prospective scholarship applicants are ineligible to serve on the scholarship committee. Donors may serve on a scholarship committee; provided, however, that they and their family members and/or those affiliated with their businesses do not directly or indirectly control the scholarship committee.

Step 2: NCF Review

When every nominee has completed their forms, the packet will be returned through DocuSign to NCF for review. We will endeavor to review your nominations and appoint your committee within two weeks of receiving a complete packet.

Step 3: Scholarship Awards

We will notify you via email when your committee has been appointed, and then you may begin awarding scholarships. For each scholarship recipient, you must complete a Scholarship Reporting Form and a Disbursement Request Form which can both be found here. Scholarships will be made payable to the recipient’s educational institution.
