The Calamus Area Community Fund is dedicated to progress and long-term prosperity. A volunteer Fund Advisory Committee works actively to increase charitable giving and award grants to local worthy causes and projects that are addressing emerging needs and future opportunities in our community.

* Calamus Area Unrestricted Endowment
A permanent account whose assets are invested to generate an ongoing source of income year after year. Investment earnings from the endowment are used to support community improvements and programs. The Fund Advisory Committee determines how the money generated from the endowment will be used to benefit the community now and in the future.

* Calamus Community Recreation Center
To raise fund to build and maintain a multi-purpose building to be used as a gathering place for public and private events in Burwell, Nebraska.

Burwell Gateway Project Account
To raise funds to purchase signage welcoming visitors to Burwell, including the following:
• Purchase an electronic event sign that will be owned and maintained by the city of Burwell.
• Renovation of a ‘Welcome’ sign owned by the city of Burwell.
• Purchase seven ‘Burwell’ Signs to be located on county and state roads entering Burwell.

To raise matching funds annually to provide college scholarships to Burwell High School graduates.

To provide funds to assist with the renovation of the Burwell High School Track and Field area in Burwell, NE.

To raise funds to improve and maintain the Fair Grounds in Burwell, Nebraska.

To raise fund to support the Burwell City/Public Library.

Gaylord and Alta Wallace Scholarship Account
An account to provide funding for scholarships to graduates of Burwell High School and Loup County High School or their successors. To the extent that school consolidation occurs, preference shall be given to students who reside in Loup County or Garfield County.

Kevin Brown Hiking / Biking Trail Account
An account to help support the design, planning, construction and maintenance of the Kevin Brown Hiking/Biking Trail in the Village of Taylor, beginning near the Veterans Memorial and continuing north along Highway 183.

Rolland & Irene Ramsthel Scholarship Account
An account to provide scholarships for individuals pursuing training to become a Registered Nurse and who are graduates of Burwell High School, Ord High School, Wheeler Central High School or Loup County High School.

Weverka/Burwell Public Schools Endowment Account
This account is a permanent endowment for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities in Burwell Public Schools and providing scholarships to Burwell Public Schools graduates to further their education.
