Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship Fund

The Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to traditional and non-traditional students of Native American heritage who are residing in the state of Nebraska. Recipients must use the scholarship to attend an accredited community college, college/university, technical college/school or vocational school to pursue a degree or certificate program.

As an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation, all contributions to the Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible. The Nebraska Community Foundation is confirmed in compliance with the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations, and has met the nation’s highest philanthropic standards of operational quality, integrity and accountability.

2023 Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship

This scholarship honors Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his contributions to America’s Native peoples by helping American Indian students pursue post-secondary education. This scholarship is granted by the Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship Fund, an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation.

Five scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to students who demonstrate qualities of leadership, character and academic accomplishment, and who need financial assistance to meet their educational goals.
