Funding opportunity: Connecting elders with loved ones

The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 has changed many long-held assumptions in the past six weeks. One of these assumptions is that we can easily and frequently visit loved ones and friends who are patients or residents of hospitals, assisted living or nursing home facilities. Under current health guidance, patients and residents of these facilities can no longer have visitors.

To keep patients and residents better connected with family and friends during this pandemic, the Alice DeVoe Donor-Advised Fund, an affiliated fund of Nebraska Community Foundation, and another anonymous donor are providing matching grants to NCF affiliated funds to purchase electronic devices (like iPads), complementary equipment, installation, training, and compensation for related staff time to connect patients and residents of hospitals, assisted living and/or nursing home facilities with family and friends.

Grants from affiliated funds will be given to hospitals, assisted living, nursing home facilities or aging agencies. These healthcare and aging organizations must a be 501(c)(3) non-profit or owned and operated by a local government political subdivision, like a municipality or county.

Other parameters are:

  • Grants of up to $2,500 will be offered per affiliated fund
  • Grants are to be matched 1:1 with other philanthropic resources (in-kind donations and previous grants or investments do not count as match)
  • Monies are to be raised and granted during 2020
  • Only NCF affiliated funds are eligible to apply
