Hometown Intern – Chasity Samaniego

Name: Chasity Samaniego
Hometown: McCook, NE
Affiliated Fund: McCook Community Foundation Fund
School: University of Nebraska Kearney

What projects are you working on this summer with your affiliated fund?
This summer I plan on working on a variety of projects. I am bilingual which has given me the opportunity to help with connecting the people of McCook to our Hispanic-owned businesses and help the Hispanic community around McCook integrate with the town in a smoother manner.

Why did you want to take this opportunity to participate in this internship?
I took this opportunity to learn more about the town I grew up in and with hopes of being able to create even the slightest change to help McCook be a better place to live.

How would you describe the experience so far?
I have been absolutely blessed with this opportunity and have had the chance to meet everyone whose influence has made my community the great place it is today.

What do you appreciate most about your community?
What I appreciate most is that the leaders in this community have found ways to make our community the best at what it is: safe, enjoyable, and inclusive.

What excites you the most when you think about the future of your community?
What excites me the most is knowing that this town will forever be my home and whenever I come back I know it will be the best place to come home to.

What are you looking for in a place to call home?
A place where I can feel safe and know that no matter where I turn there is a smiling face to greet me.
