Name: Katie Patrick
Hometown: Grant, NE
Affiliated Fund: Perkins County Community Foundation Fund
College: University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Why were you interested in this internship opportunity?
I was interested in this internship in particular because when I graduate from college I would like to work for a nonprofit organization. I believe this internship will provide me really great experience and a huge amount of knowledge I can use in pursuing that goal in the future.

What projects are you working on this summer for your affiliated fund?
I started out the summer by researching all of the nonprofit entities in Perkins County and creating a detailed table that has information about each organization. I am currently working on getting in contact with each organization and seeing how they are doing and what projects they have been working on, or future projects they may be planning. From there we see how we can help these organizations achieve their goals.

What do you appreciate most about your hometown?
I was born and raised in Grant and I have always found that if you ever need help with anything, there will always be someone willing to lend you a hand. The people in this town are so kind and selfless. I am always amazed by how far people here will go just to lend a hand.

How does it feel to be able to give back to your community?
I love being able to give back to my community. Growing up, this community gave so much to me. I strive to do everything I can to help Perkins County reach its fullest potential. I will be forever grateful that I got to grow up in such an amazing community.

What excites you the most when you think about the future of your community?
When I think of the future of Perkins County, I think of all the future potential positive changes and additions we can make to the community. In the past few years, there have been so many awesome things happening in the community. In times like these, you really see the whole community come together to help others.

What characteristics do you look for in a place to call home? Why?
When looking for a place to call home, there are a lot of things to consider and look for. Perkins County has set the bar pretty high. I look for a community that is welcoming and friendly. It feels good to be accepted and wanted in the community that you live in. It is also a huge blessing to be surrounded by kind and helpful people.
