Hometown Intern – Patricia Cleveland

Name: Patricia Cleveland
Hometown: Petersburg, NE
Affiliated Fund: Boone County Foundation Fund
College: University Nebraska – Lincoln

Why were you interested in this internship opportunity?
I was interested in this opportunity because I knew I would be staying in my hometown this summer, and I wanted to have a chance to do something for my community before I returned to school in the fall.

What projects are you working on this summer for your affiliated fund?
I am working on updating BCFF’s website. I am making curriculum for the community’s after school club, Cardinal Kids Club. I helped put together our summer newsletter, and I have been looking into making our local nature preserve, Olson Nature Preserve, more accessible.

What do you appreciate most about your hometown?
My hometown is a small, close-knit community. Everyone knows each other, and everyone wants to make Petersburg and Boone County a place where people want to live.

How does it feel to be able to give back to your community?
It feels great to give back to the community I grew up in.

What excites you the most when you think about the future of your community?
The thing that excites me the most when I think about my community’s future is all of the opportunities that kids will have to learn about things that interest them and to improve their futures.

What characteristics do you look for in a place to call home? Why?
I look for a place that is accepting of others and where the people are connected to each other. This is important to me because I want to live in a place that feels like home and where people are safe to be themselves.
