Hometown Intern – Jillian Grovijohn

Name: Jillian Grovijohn
Hometown: Howells, Nebraska
Affiliated Fund: Howells Community Fund
School: Wayne State College

What projects are you working on this summer with your affiliated fund?
I am working on updating and maintaining a new Instagram page for the Howells Community Fund. Along with that, I am trying to update the Facebook page more often than it has been. I am also organizing events for the 14–18 age group in our town and assisting with alumni events.

Why did you want to take this opportunity to participate in this internship?
I have always loved Howells, and I wanted to get more involved with making our small town a better place.

How would you describe the experience so far?
So far, I would say this experience has opened a lot of doors for me. I have made so many new connections in my town, as well as in the whole state of Nebraska.

What do you appreciate most about your community?
I appreciate how everyone is willing to help someone else out if they are in need.

What excites you the most when you think about the future of your community?
I am excited to see how our community fund will make a difference in updating our town, as well as adding new features.

What are you looking for in a place to call home?
I am looking for a place where I feel safe within my home as well as my community. I also think it is important to have a reliable support system around you. I think the best place to call home is right here in small-town Nebraska.
