Steps for a Successful Hometown Internship
STEP ONE: APPLICATION & LEARNING
November 2025 – December 2025
- Discuss the opportunity with your Affiliated Fund Advisory Committee, the Youth Engagement Specialist, and your Affiliated Fund Development Coordinator
- Review NCF’s Internship materials:

- Two FAC members must commit to serve as a supervisor and mentor for the intern(s). This role will include being present for the intern(s) throughout the summer and attending regular meetings, including two in-person gatherings
- We call you Champions because you champion the voice and presence of your interns in your community
- Fill out the application to confirm your interest in hosting a Hometown Intern
STEP TWO: RECRUITMENT
December 2025 – February 2026
- Start recruiting! Many young people search for and confirm their summer plans during winter break, so we recommend inviting prospective interns to apply during this time

STEP THREE: SELECT YOUR INTERN(S)
March 2026 (Or Sooner!)
- Complete the Memorandum of Understanding and return to NCF by March 13th, 2026, along with meeting minutes from when your FAC voted to host an intern
- Intern must be selected and name and contact information included on the MOU

STEP FOUR: ONBOARD INTERNS AND MENTORS
April 2026
- Make sure interns communicate with NCF to complete their onboarding process, which must be complete by April 30th, 2026
STEP FIVE: GET STARTED!
MAY 2026
- May 4 at 4:00pm/CT: Intern Mentor Kickoff Zoom
- May 19 at 4:00pm/CT: Intern Kickoff Zoom
- May 20 – 21: Peer Learning Session in Nebraska City
